The gears of war turn slowly, and sometimes they come to an effective halt. While Gears of War 3 is not too far away from completion, Microsoft has decided that it would be best to move the game forward to be a “marquee title for the holiday season.” The game was originally going to come out April 2011, but it would make sense for Microsoft – and Epic Games, for that matter – to want to sit on it for just a while longer. The spring release window is already full of anticipated titles.
It’s common for companies to delay a game in order to strengthen their holiday lineup, but it always feels like a tease knowing that the game could have come out much sooner. More likely than not, they’ll dedicate that extra time to tightening up and polishing the game, so there’s at least some benefit to be had.
